Cut-Paper
Fall 2001 Collection
DNR called this collection Slash Dance.
Primary colors plus black and white and slightly 1980s.
Posh but tough looking models walked the runway to heavy metal music.
Elton John bought ten pieces of this collection at Neiman Marcus.
In the catalog that accompanied the exhibition 2002 Inside Design Now, style historian Mitchell Owen wrote: “What’s behind his inspiration? The designer cites Ivy League chic of the 1960’s and Elvis Presley movies, not to mention his father’s kaleidoscopic weekend golf wardrobe, which made the Duke of Windsor’s clashing plaids, stripes, and polka-dots seem positively subdued in comparison. Gene Meyer’s vision is a joyful jaunt over the rainbow to an all-man’s land where the dandy meets the surfer dude in Technicolor splendor”.
